Data and honesty

Built on real data. Honest about its limits.

iNaturalist observations

Bug Brief counts research-grade community observations of insects and arachnids, month by month. Photos are shown only under CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA licences.

An AI best guess, labelled as one

Every identification and safety read comes from an AI model and says so. On our own test set Peeka gets the species right about 72% of the time and the genus about 82%.

Safety is never behind the paywall

The safety read on every scan and the caution list in every Bug Brief are free for everyone.

Your photo, your data

Photos are sent once to identify the bug and are not kept on our servers. Location is city-level and optional. No ads, no tracking, account optional.

Help

Questions we hear most

How do I identify a bug?

Open the app, tap the green camera button and point it at any insect, spider or other small creature, or pick a photo from your library. Peeka names it in seconds, shows what it noticed, and gives a safety read.

Is Peekabug free?

Yes. Free includes 3 scans and 3 Ask Peeka questions a day, the full Field Guide, the Bug Hotel, the daily Field Test, your local Bug Brief and all safety guidance. Peeka Pro removes the daily limits, opens Bug Brief to anywhere on the map, adds the third riddle clue, a monthly field report, gold card frames and four Pro hotel skins.

Is it safe for the whole family?

Peekabug is made for all ages. Every scan includes a clear safety read: likely harmless, be careful, or keep your distance. Please treat it as a guide, not a guarantee: never touch or handle wildlife based only on the app, and keep children supervised outdoors.

How accurate is the identification?

Peeka uses an AI model and gives its best read. On our own test set it gets the species right about 72% of the time and the genus about 82%. Nature is tricky, so the app shows what Peeka noticed and asks you to confirm. When in doubt, keep your distance.
